Posted on 01/27/2022 by FTB

We would like to introduce you to the new section: Food of the Month. In this section, we will discuss a new delicious dish each month. Where does it come from? What ingredients does it contain? The first dish to be featured is the hamburger! In the critical world of hungry hamburger fans, can there be a consensus on what the perfect hamburger should look like?

  • WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?

Did you know that 50 billion hamburgers are eaten in the US every year? Burgers are not only very popular in America, but all over the world, burgers are eaten with love. Did you know that McDonalds alone sells an average of 75 burgers per minute? But where did the concept of a hamburger come from?

There is speculation as to whether the Tartars (also known as the Mongols) brought the hamburger to Western Europe when Ghengis Khan reached the Elbe in the 12th century. The Tartars are said to have brought this meat dish with them during their Russian conquests. The Russians copied how the Tartars prepared this meat dish and added egg and onion for a fuller flavor. Thus was born the steak tartare.

What we know today as a Bulette or Frikadelle may be more like the hamburger that was first served. We know that sailors in Hamburg enjoyed the "Hamburg Steak." That was the first time hamburgers were eaten between 2 slices of bread. As our daily lives became faster and faster and we had less time to eat, the hamburger became popular. It could be prepared quickly and did not let anyone down. Perhaps the minced meat hamburger popularized more in North America, while the version in the city in northern Germany still looked like ham. Some think the word "ham" gave the original recipe its name, while others attribute the influence to the city of Hamburg.

    WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?
  • TASTE DOESN'T MATTER?

According to an Oxford University study, the taste of the hamburger makes up only 15% of the dish's overall appeal. More than 25% depending on how a hamburger feels and 15% on how it looks. Moreover, in another study, 36% of respondents said that a "craving" was responsible for their preference for burgers as a dish. The ambiance, as well as the smell of the burger, are also decisive reasons for treating oneself to a burger.

  • BURGER TRUCKS

Just like in the Spongebob series, each burger has something special and perhaps a secret recipe. What sets your favorite hamburger apart? Is it the quality of the meat? The sauce? Or that certain complicity with the chef who prepares you a vegan burger? In reality, it's hard to choose from the burgers on the menu, but one thing is for sure: no one will regret their decision once a delicious burger is steaming in front of us!

If this blog has tantalized your taste buds, don't hesitate to take a look at our website and book a Burger Truck! They come in all shapes, sizes, and flavors.
